After weeks of suspense, schemes and backstabbing, The Celebrity Traitors has reached a thrilling finale
Warning: spoilers ahead - This article reveals details from The Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Over the course of the show, audiences saw eliminations, double-crosses, intense glares, and a memorable moment that pierced all suspense.
However on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.
Out of 19 contestants, just a handful were left standing: Deceivers and loyal players facing off for the prize.
Soon, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the final players.
In the end, comedian Alan Carr was crowned the champion, in a surprising outcome that went viral and made him tearful.
"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he exclaimed, admitting to the other players that he was actually one of the deceivers. "I feel terrible about this."
"You played amazingly," they comforted him. "It's all right."
Social media immediately exploded with this development. "The worst deceiver being the most effective player," wrote a viewer.
"It couldn't have been a more iconic ending," stated another, while someone else described it as "the TV moment of the year."
His chosen charity, Neuroblastoma UK, will receive all the prize money, with the total amount reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to strategic player was among the most memorable aspects of the series.
But his win still shocked viewers in shock, as noted by entertainment reporters.
"The idea of Alan, of all people, pulling off a masterclass in deception felt just as probable as him keeping composure through his comedy routines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players summed up why no one had ever really suspected him.
"Alan could have come down to the morning meal in a green cloak and I wouldn't have believed he was deceiving us. I was too busy laughing," a player said.
"The majority didn't vote for him because how can you eliminate a person so charming?" questioned another celebrity.
Carr said he had "absolutely loved" his experience with the show.
"I'd like to do it again... I don't think it would work a second time!"
The final episode was lengthened to over an hour on television. It had an unusual opening than usual, as all the celebs knew who would appear at the morning gathering.
Viewers heard some very uplifting, and atypical for the show soundtrack, as the episode revisited key scenes from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
True to form, Alan Carr provided some of the most memorable lines.
"Let's face it, I started this game a bit of an anxious mess. I've thrown close allies to save myself, I've eliminated beloved figures openly. I'm clearly a better liar and player than I thought."
At the same time, another contestant commented that reaching the conclusion was "significantly more pressure than competing with England", while another said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.
Early on of the finale, various contestants appeared to be making a bid to become the fashion standout of the castle, taking over from an earlier departed fashionable contestant.
Carr emerged at the morning meal looking like a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, before changing into an embellished light-colored outfit.
But he was outstyled by a fellow player's burgundy formal wear. What a look.
Following this was the challenge, with the final players getting on board a train named - naturally - The Traitors Express.
The challenge involved destroying portraits of eliminated players. Have sympathy for a player who managed to get hit in the head THREE times by the cover of a substantial container.
Before long, the moment arrived for the roundtable.
Two traitors did a pinky promise in advance, pledging to support each other. "We've progressed significantly, I'm not going to betray him," said a player, while their partner just giggled.
However, one did stick to their agreement. Yet, managing to stay unnoticed for the majority of the competition, the other still got the most votes.
The remaining traitor looked like he was in a world of pain to be the last traitor standing. "Now I'm on my own, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm unpredictable, a rudderless ship."
Online platforms and viewers were equally disappointed.
"I hoped against this contestant to be eliminated. An endearing deceiver," said an observer.
"Your legacy will remain in the show's legacy," posted a different viewer.
However, there remained no time to focus on this departure. Before long, they were at the endgame - which was what we were really all here for.
The last players gathered around the fire pit. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, precisely when it mattered the most, in an absolutely shocking development.
One contestant was painfully banished - after a shock vote from their ally, who betrayed them.
"It hurts to be stabbed in the back at the final moment like that," remarked the ousted contestant. Subsequently, we learned that when they message, the eliminated contestant calls the other by a betrayer's name.
Ultimately, just three players were still competing: the last participants.
One player, looking incredibly smug, voted to end the game. So did a different player, and everything depended on the final participant, who made the identical choice - resulting in the traitor emerged victorious.
According to commentators, the scene where the other players comforted the winner was "beautiful TV". "I predict it could be in the running for outstanding scene at television honors," they said.
Happily, the winner quickly regained composure from his bout of tears, and was able to enjoy the moment.
"What a rollercoaster. I was awful at lying, my expressions gave me away and now I stand the champion," the winner said.
And he even made light of that infamous murder - his close ally during the initial stages - by leaning toward the host in the concluding moments and making contact.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The recent episodes of famous people scheming, plotting and the occasional surprising incidents may seem like a bizarre fantasy. But it really did occur. And we will miss it.
