19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player claimed his maiden title for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid season, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial championship following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after March of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has secured 21 titles at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in that event previously this season.

The player's defensive approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led commentators to wonder if his capacity to play at the elite level was concluded.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and play positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

The opponent saved four early chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
